About

Tell Brak, located in the Upper Khabur region of Syria, is a significant archaeological site, representing one of the earliest known cities. Its history spans from a small Neolithic settlement around 6500 BCE, evolving into a major urban center by the late 5th millennium BCE. Known as Nagar during the 3rd millennium BCE, it was a capital of a regional kingdom before being destroyed around 2300 BCE by the Akkadians. It later became a center for the Hurrians and flourished under the Mitanni until its destruction by the Assyrians around 1300 BCE. Tell Brak's rich archaeological record reveals diverse influences, including the construction of temples, defensive walls, and palatial buildings, showcasing its importance as a trade and religious center throughout various historical periods.
