About

The Ventanillas de Otuzco is an archaeological site located near the village of Otuzco in the Baños del Inca District, approximately 8 kilometers northeast of Cajamarca, Peru. The site is notable for its funerary crypts carved into volcanic rock, covering an area of about 1,700 square meters. These crypts served as a burial site during the Early Intermediate period, dating from approximately 300 BCE to 200 CE. The site provides valuable insights into the funerary practices of pre-Columbian civilizations in the region. Its construction on volcanic rock demonstrates the adaptation and utilization of natural geological formations for cultural and ritualistic purposes. The Ventanillas de Otuzco stands as a testament to the ingenuity and cultural complexity of ancient Andean societies.
