About

Runik is a significant archaeological site located in the Skenderaj municipality of Kosovo, within the Drenica region. It is renowned for its Neolithic settlement, which features artifacts from the Starcevo, Cardial, and Vinca cultures. Notable finds include pottery fragments dating from 6500 to 3500 BCE, a baked-clay ocarina – the oldest musical instrument discovered in Kosovo – anthropomorphic figurines, and cult tables. The site is characterized by its domestic structures, including the remains of huts supported by wooden joists. The diversity of artifacts, including monochrome pottery decorated with red gloss and barbotine earthenware, highlights the cultural richness of the site. Runik offers valuable insights into the Neolithic period and the cultural exchanges within the Balkans.
