About

The Monument of the Millennium in Luxembourg City is an archaeological site that marks the foundation of the city by Count Siegfried in 963 CE. The site features the remnants of the original Luxembourg Castle, a defensive structure that was crucial in the early history of the city. This castle was built on the Bock promontory, which provided a strategic defensive position. Although the initial plan was to erect a modern monument on this historic site, the uncovering of the castle's foundations led to a shift in focus towards the preservation and restoration of these significant remains. The site provides valuable insights into the early post-classical period of Luxembourg, highlighting the architectural and strategic planning of medieval Europe.
