About

The Skuldelev ships, a collection of five Viking vessels, were discovered submerged near Skuldelev in Denmark. These ships, dating back to the 11th century, offer invaluable insights into the maritime traditions of the Viking Age. Each ship serves a unique purpose: Skuldelev 1 is a robust cargo vessel built in Norway; Skuldelev 2, a long warship from the Dublin area; Skuldelev 3, a Danish cargo ship; Skuldelev 5, a smaller warship constructed in Roskilde; and Skuldelev 6, initially a fishing vessel from Norway. Built primarily from oak and pine, these ships illustrate the advanced shipbuilding techniques of the era. Now housed in the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, the Skuldelev ships provide crucial evidence of Viking naval capabilities and their role in trade and warfare.
