About
The Verboc Fortress, situated atop a hill near the village of Verboc in Kosovo, is an Illyrian archaeological site dating back to the Iron Age and Classical Period. Known for its robust defensive structures, this significant hillfort showcases a complex of inner and outer walls, as well as formidable towers and gates. The inner wall reaches a thickness of 2 meters and a height of 5 meters, while the outer wall is slightly thinner at 1 meter thick and 3 meters high. Towers at the site are square, measuring approximately 5 meters on each side and 10 meters in height. Excavations in the late 20th century uncovered pottery, metal tools, and weapons, indicating its dual military and civilian functions. The fortress played a strategic role in controlling the region, with an ancient road passing nearby, underscoring its importance in the historical landscape of Dardania.
