About
Clemency in Luxembourg is an archaeological site of significant historical value due to the discovery of a Celtic tomb dating back to the 1st century BCE. This site, linked to the Treveri tribe, features the largest Gallic tomb found to date, indicating its importance. The tomb houses a variety of grave goods, including at least ten wine amphorae, an Italic bronze basin, an oil lamp from Campania, an iron grill, and approximately 30 Gallic pots, which suggest the high status of the deceased, likely a Celtic nobleman. Additionally, the presence of a chimney from an iron smelter within the chamber highlights the individual's connection to iron production, providing insight into the industrial activities of the period. The site, situated near the former commune of Clemency, offers valuable information on the cultural and industrial practices of the Late Iron Age.
