About
Nuffara is an archaeological site located on a plateau in Xaghra, Gozo, Malta. It is situated near the Ġgantija site and is believed to have been a major village from 1500 BCE to 700 BCE. The site primarily consists of grain storage pits, indicative of its historical role in agricultural activities. Although much of the site has eroded over time, these pits remain visible to visitors and provide insight into the storage and management of resources in the past. The artifacts, such as sherds found during the 1961 excavation, suggest sustained human habitation and usage during the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, highlighting its significance as a center of settlement and subsistence strategies in ancient Malta.
