About
Mohenjo-daro, built around 2500 BCE in the Indus Valley Civilization, was one of the earliest major urban centers in human history. Located in present-day Pakistan's Sindh province, the city showcases advanced urban planning with grid layouts, sophisticated water management systems, including wells and a large public bath, and a variety of public and domestic structures. The site includes features indicative of complex social organization, such as a central marketplace, assembly halls, and a possibly ceremonial Great Bath. Despite its significant size and population, the city lacked substantial fortifications, hinting at a relatively peaceful society. Mohenjo-daro was abandoned by 1700 BCE, likely due to environmental changes or societal shifts. Today, its remains offer invaluable insights into early urbanization and the Indus Valley Civilization's cultural and technological advancements.
