About

Chichakuri is an archaeological site in the Puno Region of Peru, situated at an elevation of about 2,800 meters above sea level. The site is characterized by its stone tombs, known as chullpas, alongside domestic structures including houses and squares. These features suggest a well-organized settlement with significant importance placed on burial practices. The site's construction is estimated to have occurred during the Late Post-Classical Period, around the 15th century CE. Declared a National Cultural Heritage site in 2003, Chichakuri offers valuable insights into the architectural and cultural practices of the region's past inhabitants. Its preservation allows for ongoing study and understanding of pre-Columbian Andean civilizations.
