About
Arkaim is a fortified settlement from the Middle to Late Bronze Age, part of the Sintashta culture, located in the Southern Urals of Russia. Built around 2150-1650 BCE, it features a circular design with two concentric bastions made of adobe and timber, and a surrounding moat. The site includes approximately sixty dwellings equipped with hearths, wells, and metallurgical furnaces, indicative of a developed society with leaders of high authority. It is thought to reflect the cosmological models described in ancient Indo-Iranian texts. Arkaim's structure serves as evidence of early chariot technology and complex societal organization in the region, reinforcing the area’s significance in understanding Indo-European migrations.
