About
Blatnica, located in the Turiec region of Slovakia, is a significant archaeological site known for its Slavic tumuli from the 8th and 9th centuries CE. These burial mounds contained valuable artifacts, notably the famous Blatnica Sword, contributing to the identification of the Blatnica-Mikulčice archaeological horizon. The site also features the ruins of Blatnica Castle, constructed in the 13th century. This area offers insights into the Slavic culture and medieval architecture in the region. The village's historical significance is further enriched by its preservation of cultural heritage, including manor houses, a Lutheran church, and traditional rural dwellings.
