This cave, originally formed as a solution cavity in dolomite rocks, extends about 140 meters into a hill. It contains stratified deposits reflecting the Earlier, Middle, and Later Stone Ages. Archaeological findings include Oldowan tools, evidence of early controlled fire use, and Later Stone Age engravings. The cave also features parietal rock paintings near its entrance. Wonderwerk Cave offers invaluable insights into human prehistoric life and environmental conditions in Southern Africa, making it a site of both national and international archaeological importance.
