About
Lang Rongrien is a significant archaeological site located in Krabi province, southern Thailand. It serves as a crucial Hoabinhian habitation site dating back to the Upper Paleolithic era. The rock shelter, situated in a remote area accessible via a steep trail or narrow ridge, has been utilized intermittently across millennia. Initial use dates back to around 39,000 years ago as a campground for hunter-gatherers, with continued habitation observed through the early Holocene. The site contains distinct stratigraphic layers revealing charcoal deposits, stone artifacts, and animal remains. Notably, it also served as a burial site during the Neolithic period. Lang Rongrien provides valuable insights into early human habitation patterns and cultural practices in Southeast Asia.
