Historical Context

About

Siderus, an ancient port town in Lycia, is referenced in classical texts such as the Periplus of Pseudo-Scylax and the Stadiasmus Maris Magni. Located on the coast of modern Turkey, the town is identified with the promontory now known as Adrasan Burnu. Historical accounts note its proximity to Crambousa and Moron Hydor, placing it 30 stadia from each. While 19th-century scholars like William Martin Leake and William Smith associated Siderus with Olympus, contemporary research suggests its location at Ceneviz Limanı. The town's significance lies in its role as a maritime hub in ancient Lycia, contributing to regional trade and cultural exchange during the Classical Period.
