About

Aulanko Castle, located in Hämeenlinna, Tavastia Proper, Finland, is a historically significant site with its origins dating back to the Iron Age. It features an ancient hillfort, and evidence of a nearby Iron Age residence and cemetery. Although the precise construction date of the original Aulanko Castle remains unknown, it was demolished in the 13th century, coinciding with the construction of Häme Castle across Lake Vanajavesi. In 1887, a new Granite Castle was built by Colonel Hugo Robert Standertskjöld, which now serves as a summer theatre. The site is part of a culturally rich environment that includes the Aulanko Nature Reserve, highlighting its archaeological and ecological significance.
