About

Lake Paliastomi, situated near the city of Poti in Georgia, is a small lake connected to the Black Sea. This lake, covering an area of 17.3 km² with an average depth of 2.6 meters, has revealed significant archaeological insights into the ancient Colchis civilization. Artifacts found in and around the lake indicate the presence of this ancient culture, which is known for its advanced metallurgy and as the backdrop of the legendary tale of the Golden Fleece. The lake lies within the Kolkheti National Park, underscoring its importance as both a natural and historical site. The finds suggest a timeline spanning from the Late Bronze Age to the Middle Iron Age, reflecting a long-standing human interaction with the landscape.
