About
Pichvnari, located in modern-day Georgia near the confluence of the Choloki and Ochkhamuri rivers, is an archaeological site believed to be a Colchian settlement. Although its ancient name remains unknown, the site has revealed significant multilevel Bronze Age occupation layers. The settlement's strategic location on the coast suggests it was likely an important center for trade and interaction between various cultures across the Black Sea region. Collaborative excavations led by Georgian and British archaeologists since 1998 have uncovered various domestic features typical of a village, providing insights into the lifestyle and social organization of the Colchian people. The site's significance lies in its potential to enhance understanding of the Bronze Age cultures in the Caucasus region.
