About
La Centinela is a significant archaeological site located in the Chincha Valley of Peru, approximately 200 km south of Lima and near the Pacific Ocean. This site was an important administrative center during both the Inca and pre-Inca periods, serving as the capital of the Chincha kingdom. Archaeological features include 11 well-defined pyramid structures constructed from adobe bricks and several minor buildings. The discovery of a system of straight roads suggests a highly centralized administration, even prior to Inca integration. La Centinela reflects a blend of Inca and pre-Inca architectural styles, with some adobe walls decorated using the Champlevé technique. Its strategic location and rich agricultural surroundings highlight its historical importance in harnessing plant, animal, and marine resources for its inhabitants.
