About
Timnah, also known as Tel Batash, is an ancient Philistine city located in the Sorek Valley of modern-day Israel. The site spans several archaeological periods, including the Middle Bronze Age, when it was first settled with an earthen rampart, and the Iron Age, during which it became a fortified city under Philistine control. It is notably mentioned in the Hebrew Bible in connection with Samson. Excavations have revealed multiple layers of settlement, showcasing its long history of occupation. The city also features defensive structures and evidence of agricultural practices, such as vineyards. Its strategic location along ancient roads highlights its significance as a cultural and transport hub in antiquity.
