About
Busaira, located in the Tafilah Governorate of Jordan, is an archaeological site with significant historical and cultural importance. It is identified with the biblical city of Bozrah, a key city in the ancient Edomite kingdom. The site features remnants from the Middle to Late Iron Age, including structures indicating it was a town of some significance. Excavations have revealed a Byzantine church, dwellings, and water management features like wells, indicating a continued occupation and religious significance through the Classical Period. The site suffered destruction during Nebuchadnezzar II's invasion in the 6th century BCE and was later occupied by the Nabateans. The rich and varied history of Busaira makes it a valuable study for understanding regional transitions from Edomite to Byzantine influences.
