About

The archaeological sites at Jdeideh, located in the northern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, are significant for their diverse array of prehistoric artifacts. Discovered by Jesuit fathers, these sites reveal evidence of human activity spanning several prehistoric periods, notably the Acheulean, Middle Paleolithic, Upper Paleolithic, and Heavy Neolithic periods. The sites yielded a variety of flint tools, including those associated with the Qaraoun culture, indicative of the Heavy Neolithic period. The assemblages found at Jdeideh I, Jdeideh II, and Jdeideh III demonstrate the area's rich prehistoric occupation and tool-making tradition. Artifacts from these sites have been preserved in the Museum of Lebanese Prehistory, highlighting the cultural and historical importance of this region in understanding early human technological and cultural development.
