About

Sidi Bennour, located in Morocco's Casablanca-Settat region, is a city with historical significance tied to Moroccan sufi traditions. The city derives its name from the 12th-century sufi saint Abi Yannur, whose teachings influenced prominent figures such as Abu Ayyub Assariyah. While the city's history is modestly documented, it is recognized for its religious and agricultural importance, hosting the largest livestock market in Morocco every Tuesday. Additionally, Sidi Bennour is home to the country's largest sugar factory, highlighting its economic significance. In 2011, Sidi Bennour transitioned into a formal municipality, leading to a notable increase in its population. From an archaeological perspective, the city reflects a blend of religious history and economic development within a modern context.
