About

The Lazarica Church, formally known as the Church of the Holy First Martyr Stephen, is a Serbian Orthodox church located in Kruševac, Serbia. Constructed between 1375 and 1378 CE by Prince Lazar of Serbia, this architectural gem is a prime example of the Morava school and showcases a trefoil plan with a dome over its central area. The church was once part of the expansive Kruševac Fortress, but today only fragments of the fortress remain. Over the centuries, the church has experienced periods of desecration, notably under Ottoman rule in 1455 CE, and has undergone phases of reconstruction, including the addition of frescoes in the 18th century. Declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1979, the Lazarica Church is a significant symbol of Serbian medieval architecture and heritage.
