About

Majiyohan is a town located in the northeastern Bari region of Somalia, within the autonomous Puntland region. It lies at the northern foothills of the Galgala Mountains and is primarily inhabited by the Dubays branch of the Warsangali clan. The town is notable for its rich mineral resources, including tin, tantalum, rubidium, and cesium. Historically, Majiyohan has been a center of mining activities, with significant events such as the demolition of a quarry by the British in 1948 and the granting of mining rights to a Bulgarian company in the 1970s. These operations have led to conflicts, particularly after the Somali Civil War, involving local militias and the Puntland government. Despite being primarily a mining site, its complex history and strategic location have made it significant in regional politics.
