About

The Northern Cape Heritage Resources Authority, established in 2003, is responsible for managing and protecting the heritage sites within the Northern Cape Province, South Africa. This includes approximately 130 provincial heritage sites, previously recognized as national monuments. The authority works under the framework of the National Heritage Resources Act and aims to transform the heritage landscape to equally recognize the cultural heritage of all communities within the province. Notable sites include the Wildebeest Kuil rock art site, declared a provincial heritage site in 2008, and the Richtersveld World Heritage Site, gazetted in 2007. These sites contain significant artistic and decorative features, such as petroglyphs, which are crucial to understanding the cultural and historical narratives of the region.
