About
Pilane is an archaeological site located in Klövdal, Tjörn, Bohuslän, Sweden, notable for its Iron Age settlement and extensive grave field dating from 1 to 600 CE. The site comprises around 90 ancient monuments, including distinctive stone circles, burial mounds, circular stone grave markers, and standing stones. These features mark it as a significant funerary area, reflecting the burial practices and rituals of the Iron Age. Managed by the Swedish National Heritage Board, the site is also used for grazing sheep, preserving its natural landscape. Since 2007, it has become a cultural focal point, hosting an annual outdoor sculpture exhibition, attracting numerous visitors and enhancing its historical ambiance. Its proximity to other archaeological sites, such as the Basteröd rock carvings, adds further depth to the cultural landscape of the area.
