About

Pom Phet is a significant archaeological site located in Ayutthaya, Thailand, representing one of the two surviving forts from the original 29 built to defend the city. Constructed during the mid-16th century CE, amid the Ayutthaya-Burmese conflicts, it stands as a testament to the military architecture of the era. Made from durable brick and laterite, the fort is 14 meters thick with eight openings designed for cannons, emphasizing its strategic importance. Situated at the confluence of three rivers, the fort once anchored a vibrant trading community that included diverse nationalities.
