About

Si Satchanalai Historical Park is a significant archaeological site in northern Thailand, showcasing the remnants of the once-thriving city of Si Satchanalai, founded in 1250 CE as a second center of the Sukhothai Kingdom. The site features a variety of structures, including defensive walls, moats, and numerous temples adorned with intricate architectural styles reflecting Thai, Khmer, and Ayutthayan influences. Key religious sites such as Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat exhibit a blend of Mahayana Buddhist and later Thai artistic elements. The park also includes ancient kilns that highlight the region's role in porcelain production. Throughout its history, Si Satchanalai was a strategic and cultural hub, experiencing periods of Khmer control, rebellion, and annexation by the Lanna and Ayutthaya Kingdoms, followed by destruction during the Burmese-Siamese War. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors to its historical and cultural treasures.
