About

Laertes, an ancient town located in the region of Cilicia, now part of modern-day Asiatic Turkey, holds significant archaeological interest as a stronghold. Referenced by Strabo, the town's defensive attributes highlight its strategic importance in ancient times. Situated near present-day Cebelires in Antalya Province, Laertes is believed by some to be the hometown of the philosopher Diogenes Laërtius. The site’s archaeological remnants are pivotal for understanding the socio-political dynamics of the Early and Late Classical Periods in this region. Artifacts from the site are preserved and displayed at the Alanya Archaeological Museum, offering insights into its historical significance and the lifestyle of its ancient inhabitants.
