About
Laertes, an ancient town located in the region of Cilicia, now part of modern-day Asiatic Turkey, holds significant archaeological interest as a stronghold. Referenced by Strabo, the town's defensive attributes highlight its strategic importance in ancient times. Situated near present-day Cebelires in Antalya Province, Laertes is believed by some to be the hometown of the philosopher Diogenes Laërtius. The site’s archaeological remnants are pivotal for understanding the socio-political dynamics of the Early and Late Classical Periods in this region.
