About
Haram, an ancient city located in the north of modern-day Yemen's al-Jawf region, sits approximately 1100 meters above sea level. Historically, it functioned as an independent political entity before falling under the influence of the Kingdom of Saba' by the early 7th century BCE. The city played a role in regional conflicts alongside Saba', notably during its war against Awsān and the city states of Nashan and Nashaq. Significant archaeological features include the temple of Banāt 'Ād, which contains numerous dedicatory inscriptions to the local god Mutibbnatyan. The city's importance waned with the rise of the Kingdom of Ma'īn but experienced a resurgence under subsequent Sabaean rule. The site is marked by religious and habitation structures, reflecting its significance in ancient South Arabian culture.
