About
The Xələc archaeological site in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan, is a significant Chalcolithic settlement located on the left bank of the Aras River. The site is notable for its rich array of artifacts, including red clay pottery and painted ceramics that draw parallels to those found in the Eneolithic monuments east of Lake Urmiya in Iran. The presence of grain stones, obsidian, and flint panels further highlight its importance in early human industrial and craft activities. Additionally, the site contains evidence of irrigation canals from the slopes of the Khalaj mountain, indicating advanced water management practices. The settlement spans from the Chalcolithic to the Bronze Age, showcasing a continuous human occupation characterized by evolving ceramic styles and land use practices. The artifacts and structural features provide crucial insights into the early cultural and technological developments in the region.
