About
Damjili Cave, located in the Avey Mountain region of Azerbaijan, is a significant archaeological site due to its extensive evidence of prehistoric human occupation. The site contains artifacts from multiple periods, including the Middle Paleolithic, Upper Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, and Bronze Age. Notable discoveries include stone tools, ochre traces, hearths, and fossilized animal bones. These findings suggest a long-standing human presence with cultural and symbolic practices, particularly during the Mousterian culture. The cave's physical attributes, such as its half-circular shape and destroyed front side due to floods, provide insights into the environmental challenges faced by its ancient inhabitants. The site's stratigraphic layers have contributed valuable information about the Mesolithic-to-Neolithic transition in the Caucasus region.
