About
Garakopaktapa is an ancient multilayer settlement from the Middle Bronze Age, located near the Fuzuli Rayon in Azerbaijan. The site is situated in the basin of the Guruchay and Kondalanchay Rivers. Discovered by Azerbaijani archaeologist Gudrat Ismayilov during excavations from 1961 to 1971, the site yielded material culture artifacts dating from the second half of the 3rd millennium BCE. These artifacts provide insight into the culture of tribes residing in the Mil-Karabakh steppe during this time. Notably, Ismayilov linked the Garabulag kurgan cemetery on the right bank of the Kondalan River to this settlement, highlighting its importance as a burial site. The findings contribute valuable information about the Middle Bronze Age in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the cultural and historical significance of this region.
