About

Kultepe-2 is an ancient settlement located in Nakhchivan, notable for its significant archaeological features from the Early and Middle Bronze Ages. Initially established in the early 4th millennium BCE, the site is associated with the Kura–Araxes culture, characterized by its circular-shaped brick buildings. Over time, the settlement expanded to cover nearly 10 hectares, but river erosion has since reduced its size. During the Middle Bronze Age, Kultepe-2 developed into an urban-type settlement, fortified with substantial defensive walls and towers. The site is renowned for its sophisticated construction techniques, employing large square bricks and mud-mounted stonework. Archaeological findings at the site include a variety of painted pottery, stone, bone, and bronze tools, as well as ornamental and weapon artifacts. These discoveries highlight the advanced craftsmanship and cultural complexity of its ancient inhabitants.
