About
The Uzerliktapa site is a significant Middle Bronze Age settlement located near Aghdam, Azerbaijan. Characterized by its defensive walls and domestic structures, it represents one of the earliest urban cultures in the region. The settlement was situated on a natural hill, offering strategic advantages for defense. Archaeological excavations have revealed a multi-layered cultural stratigraphy, with evidence of advanced craftsmanship, agriculture, and religious practices. The presence of monochrome painted ceramics indicates cultural exchanges or influences from neighboring regions. Defensive structures, such as trenches and fortified walls, suggest the importance of military preparedness. The site was eventually abandoned around the end of the 1st millennium BCE, likely due to external conflicts. Despite its destruction, Uzerliktapa provides valuable insights into the life and culture of ancient populations in the Caucasus.
