About

Laqaya, located in the Altiplano of Bolivia within the Potosí Department, Nor Lípez Province, Colcha 'K' Municipality, is an archaeological site recognized for its historic significance as a settlement. The site, named from the Aymara language meaning 'ruins of a building,' offers insights into the domestic life of past societies through its habitation structures. Declared a National Archaeological Monument in 2004, Laqaya reflects the architectural practices during the Late Classical and Early Post-Classical periods. Although specific chronological details about its construction and occupation phases are limited, the site stands as a testament to the historical occupation of the region, contributing valuable information to the understanding of pre-Columbian societies in Bolivia.
