About

Lasana is an archaeological site located in Chile's northern Antofagasta Region, notable for its pre-Columbian fortress known as Pukará de Lasana. This 12th-century structure exemplifies the defensive architecture of the time and offers insights into the region's historical significance. The site features petroglyphs, adding an artistic and cultural layer to its archaeological importance. Situated near the Loa River and close to San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, Lasana was declared a national monument in 1982. The site's strategic location and its enduring architectural remains make it a key subject for studying the social and defensive strategies of pre-Columbian societies in the region.
