About

Ciudad Perdida, also known as Teyuna, is an archaeological site located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. Founded around 800 CE, it serves as a testament to the advanced civilization of the Tairona people. The site comprises 169 terraces carved into the mountainside, a network of roads, and several small circular plazas, all accessible through a dense jungle climb of 1,200 stone steps. The Tairona, who inhabited this area, were skilled in agriculture, utilizing the terraces for farming, and were connected to other communities through stone paths. Despite being forced to flee during the 16th century due to European colonization, the site remains a significant cultural and historical landmark. Modern efforts are underway to preserve and protect Ciudad Perdida, acknowledging its historical importance and the legacy of the Tairona people.
