About

Apliki is a significant archaeological site located in the Nicosia District of Cyprus, marked by its historical role as a copper mining and smelting site during the Late Bronze Age, around the 14th century BCE. Situated at an elevation of 720 meters, the site rests on rocky terraces that facilitated its industrial activities. Excavations have uncovered four houses, revealing rich findings that include an ivory cylinder, a cylinder seal of steatite, and a gold earring, indicating a degree of wealth and trade connections. The site highlights the advanced metallurgical practices of the period and provides valuable insights into the socio-economic dynamics of ancient Cyprus. Apliki's strategic location near the Maroullenas river also underscores its importance in the regional copper trade network during the Bronze Age.
