About
The archaeological site at Hemamieh, located in the Sohag Governorate of Middle Egypt, is a significant site in the study of ancient Egyptian culture and society. It features numerous cemeteries that date back to the Prehistoric and Pharaonic periods, with notable burials from the Badari culture, one of the earliest known cultures in Upper Egypt dating back to around 4500 BCE. Additionally, the site contains rock tombs from the Old Kingdom period, specifically from the Fifth Dynasty. Among these, the best-preserved tomb belongs to Kaikhenet (II), a nomarch of the Wadjit-nome. These discoveries provide valuable insights into the funerary practices and social hierarchies of ancient Egyptian communities.
