Keskese is an archaeological site located in Eritrea, notable for its association with the ancient D'mt kingdom. The site dates back to around 500 BCE and is particularly renowned for its impressive stelae, some of which reach heights of up to 14 meters. These stelae are significant as they are inscribed in the ancient Ge'ez script, providing valuable insights into the language and culture of the era. The site's location 8 kilometers north of Matara situates it within a region that was historically significant for its role in ancient trade and cultural exchanges. Keskese offers a glimpse into the Middle and Late Iron Age in this area, underscoring its importance as a center of early civilization in the Horn of Africa.
