About

The Kastelli Giant's Church is a significant prehistoric stone enclosure located near Pattijoki in North Ostrobothnia, Finland. Dating to approximately 2000 BCE, it is one of the largest of the so-called 'Giant's Churches' in the region. The enclosure is rectangular, measuring around 60 by 35 meters, with walls that are seven meters wide and two meters high. It features six gateways and is surrounded by more than twenty stone cairns, suggesting a complex site likely used for ceremonial or ritual purposes. The site was originally situated on a rocky shoreline, indicating its strategic or symbolic importance. The presence of holes nearby may indicate areas for storing killed animals, hinting at the potential for subsistence or ritual activities.
