About
Bawomataluo Village, located on Nias Island in Indonesia, is a remarkable archaeological site known for its well-preserved traditional architecture and cultural significance. Built on a flat-topped hill, the village's design is attributed to King Laowo in the 18th century. It features a unique layout that incorporates megalithic monuments, known locally as daro-daro and naitaro, used in communal rituals. These stone structures are believed to represent male and female deities, respectively. The village's centerpiece is the chief's house, a large wooden structure with intricate carvings and symbolic decorations. The settlement, comprising 500 houses, showcases the skill of local artisans in wood crafting. The site's cultural heritage is further enriched by traditional war dances and ceremonial stone jumping events. Bawomataluo is an exemplary representation of the megalithic monument tradition and reflects the rich cultural history of the Nias people.
