About
Tell Khaiber, located in southern Mesopotamia, is a significant archaeological site featuring two mounds, Tell Khaiber 1 and Tell Khaiber 2. It offers insights into the Sealand Dynasty, particularly during the Middle Bronze Age, around 1500 BCE. The site is distinguished by its large administrative building, referred to as the Fortified Building, which spans 4400 square meters and is fortified by large walls and towers. This building housed an archive of 145 clay tablets in Akkadian and Sumerian, revealing administrative practices related to agriculture. Additionally, Tell Khaiber 2 is associated with the Kassite period, showcasing a continuity of occupation. The site also contains pottery from various earlier periods, including Ubaid and Jemdet Nasr, although these layers are below the current water table. Tell Khaiber's discoveries contribute significantly to our understanding of the Sealand Dynasty's political and economic activities.
