About

The archaeological site at Kefraya, located in the Western Beqaa District of Lebanon, is significant for its association with the Qaraoun culture and its Heavy Neolithic industry. It features a large archaeological area where a factory site was identified, characterized by a significant presence of Levallois cores and a variety of flint tools. These include scrapers, knives, axes, adzes, and a segmented sickle blade, all crafted from the locally available, high-quality Kefraya flint found among Eocene conglomerates. The site showcases extensive evidence of flint tool production, marking it as an important industrial and craft location from the Neolithic period. This discovery provides insight into early tool-making practices in the region and the adaptation of human communities before the Neolithic Revolution.
