About

Arsal is a town located on the slopes of the Anti-Lebanon mountains, characterized by its traditional architecture and rich water supply. Notably, it houses rock-cut benches and a fortified structure of unknown date. The Ain Choaab site nearby contains Natufian rock shelters, indicating early human occupation. Although the site has not been excavated, flint tools have been collected, suggesting a Neolithic presence. Arsal's history is marked by its strategic importance, as evidenced by its mention in 1838 as a Metawileh village and its role in recent conflicts during the Syrian Civil War. The area remains significant for its archaeological potential and historical events.
