About
Arqa, a site of significant archaeological interest, reveals a long history of habitation and strategic importance, starting from the Neolithic period. During the Early Bronze Age, it was part of the Akkar Plain's major settlements. The city reached prominence in the Iron Age as a city-state, notably contributing to the coalition against Assyria in the Battle of Qarqar. The site is also mentioned in the Amarna letters, highlighting its role in the political landscape of the Late Bronze Age. Under Roman rule, it became known as Caesarea ad Libanum and was later fortified with a castle during the Crusades. The site features domestic structures, castles, and early Christian churches, marking its evolution through various cultural and historical phases.
