About

Al-Moyassar, an archaeological zone in Oman's Sharqiyah province, encompasses a range of sites reflecting the region's pre-Islamic history. The area is renowned for its association with the ancient copper-producing land of Magan or Makkan. Excavations have revealed significant Early and Late Iron Age sites, including settlements, fortifications, and cemeteries. Notable findings include the Umm an-Nar period metal production settlement at al-Maysar M1, the Early Iron Age mountain fort at Lizq L1, and the Late Iron Age settlement and fortifications at sites like M42 and M34. A falaj irrigation canal demonstrates the area's long-standing water management practices. The site's extensive history offers insights into the region's industrial, defensive, and funerary practices over several millennia.
