About
Al-Amqat is an archaeological site located in al-Dakhaliyah, Oman, notable for its Late Iron Age cemetery dating to the Samad period. Situated on a slope north of an oasis, the site was discovered during road construction in 1991. German archaeologists conducted a rescue excavation, uncovering five remarkably well-preserved graves that had not been looted. Among the findings were the intact grave of a warrior and another grave containing a woman adorned with numerous beads, which provide valuable insights into the burial customs and material culture of the period. Unfortunately, much of the cemetery was later destroyed due to continued road construction. Al-Amqat stands as a significant example of Late Iron Age burial practices in the region, contributing to our understanding of the Samad culture.
